Cambridge Museum of Technology
The home of Cambridge's industrial heritage.
Cambridge Museum of Technology is an independent museum (founded by students from the University and workers from local industries), which is based in the city’s Victorian-era sewage-pumping station.
We help people to explore, enjoy, and learn about their industrial heritage by celebrating the achievements of local industries and the people who worked in them.
Our collections range from 19th-century steam engines to 20th-century scientific instruments and telecommunications equipment, designed, built, used in Cambridge. The Museum houses collections from the first Cambridge Phenomenon (Pye and Cambridge Scientific Instrument Company).
We recently refurbished the museum thanks to National Lottery, WREN, Historic England, Architectural Heritage Fund and Pye Foundation funding.
Programmes of activity include: STEM and Arts education, science and engineering outreach, industrial archaeology, family events and Steam Days: have all your senses stimulated!
Learn about the story of Cambridge's sanitation and public health in the Victorian Pumping Station. Discover Cambridge’s forgotten industries in the Top Bay, including manufacturing, food production and energy utilities. Marvel at the town’s early high-tech companies in the Pye Building. Explore our industrial heritage around the site. Enjoy great coffee from our on-site partner or pop back in the evening for a beer and pizza in the Engineers House.
